The case concerns the captain's departure from the Portugal camp on September 30th, on the eve of the match against Denmark in the Nations League. In the same statement, the body confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended.
Under the Portuguese Football Federation's regulations, Ronaldo could be suspended for between one and six months and fined between 500 and 1,000 euros.
At best, the 41-year-old forward could see his suspension end on October 30th and become eligible to return during the November international break, when the Nations League group stage will be concluded.
If the maximum six-month ban is imposed, it will end on March 30th, meaning a return would only be possible during the June international break, when Portugal hope to be competing in the competition's finals.
Federation wants Ronaldo return
FPF president Pedro Proenca said everyone within the federation wanted Ronaldo to return to the national team once the matter was resolved.
"The Portuguese Football Federation and its president, in this spirit of tranquillity, speaking with all parties, who have already publicly demonstrated their desire to have the captain back with us, there is an expressed wish from everyone," he was quoted as saying by A Bola.
"This includes the federation, the FPF president, the national team coach, the captain and the players."
Regarding Ronaldo's disciplinary process, Proenca added: "That will depend solely on the Disciplinary Committee, which is an autonomous body, and it will do its job."
Ronaldo apologised on Tuesday for failing to acknowledge supporters after the Norway game and for leaving his teammates, adding that he would remain available for selection after serving any punishment arising from the incident.
