The 26-year-old Reiss Nelson left Arsenal after 18 years at the club, as the parties agreed to terminate the Londoner's contract. Outside of loan spells at Hoffenheim, Feyenoord, Fulham, and Brentford, Nelson played 90 games across all competitions for Arsenal, for whom he made his senior debut in 2018.
Feyenoord confirmed the signing of Nelson on Wednesday afternoon, with the Englishman having penned a one-year contract in Rotterdam.
"It’s absolutely great to be back here," Nelson said on the club website. "I had a wonderful year at Feyenoord and always felt at home there. That’s why it feels good to be back at (training complex) 1908."
Nelson spent the 2021-22 season with Feyenoord, during which they reached the UEFA Conference League final. Nelson scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists in 32 games for the Rotterdam club.
"I’ve always kept up with Feyenoord, and it’s been great to see the progress the club has made. The fact that we’re kicking off a new Champions League season next week is a fine example of that. I’m going to do everything I can to make a contribution to the team as soon as possible and can’t wait to pull on this shirt again."
Feyenoord entered the final day of the summer transfer window looking for a left winger and a striker after the departures of Leo Sauer and top scorer Ayase Ueda. After Nelson's transfer, it's unlikely that the club will find a new striker.
