09:33 CET - BEN SHELTON HAS BEATEN DEFENDING CHAMPION CARLOS ALCARAZ AT 3.33 AM IN NEW YORK, IN A US OPEN CLASSIC!
The biggest victory of his career, the pair had to be separated by a championship tiebreak, and Shelton came up with the goods to seal a 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(7) win in the latest-ever US Open finish.
The American was absolutely magnificent during a thrilling encounter, while Alcaraz was clearly a bit fatigued and drained after such a long injury layoff. Regardless, the Spaniard produced some awe-inspiring shotmaking, as did Shelton.
Shelton will now have to recover in time for his semi-final on Friday, when he faces fellow American Frances Tiafoe.
09:00 CET - The clock has struck 3am in New York, and this is now the latest finish in US Open history, breaking the previous record, which stood at 2.50am. Remarkable.
08:20 CET - I don't know how he has done it, but Carlos Alcaraz has fought back to take this match into a decider! The Spaniard still looks drained and not at his best, but Ben Shelton's level has dropped in this set, allowing the two-time champion a route back into the contest.

07:44 CET - From one set down to 2-1 up, Ben Shelton is a set away from defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and reaching the semi-finals!
After winning the opener, Alcaraz seems to be really struggling and has had a huge energy dip. Could his lack of matches over the last few months following his lengthy injury be affecting him now? One thing is for sure: Shelton won't care one bit!

06:07 CET - After 62 minutes of tennis, Carlos Alcaraz takes the first set in a tiebreak over Ben Shelton.
The Spaniard won 7-6(6) after serving for the set at 6-5. However, he was broken back right away and was behind in the tiebreak. Yet, the two-time champions at Flushing Meadows found a way and now has the lead.
05:05 CET - Wrapping up tonight's action will be the one match everyone is looking forward to. Carlos Alcaraz takes on Ben Shelton in what promises to be a thriller.
04:45 CET - Jessica Pegula completes the comeback over Emma Navarro, beating her fellow compatriot 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 22 minutes.
After having a poor first set, Pegula stepped up her game, taking the second set and forcing a decider. Despite being broken early on in the third, the number three seed battled back, winning five of the final six games to advance and improve her record to 5-0 over Navarro.
Thursday will see Pegula face Sabalenka in the semi-finals.
04:00 CET - It is going to a deciding set at Arthur Ashe Stadium, as Jessica Pegula wins it 6-4.
The 32-year-old broke Emma Navarro's serve to force a third set as she constantly had her opponent under siege when serving. Can Pegula maintain her perfect record against her fellow American?
03:15 CET - The first set goes Emma Navarro's way as she takes it 6-3 over Jessica Pegula.
It was a shaky opening set, which saw a combined 28 unforced errors between the two, 14 from each player. It was Navarro who held her nerve in the end, and is now one set away from her first-ever win over Pegula.

01:25 CET - Next up is another all-American quarter-final, this time on the women's side, as Jessica Pegula faces off against Emma Navarro. All four previous meetings have gone the way of the third seed. Can she make it five wins from five?

01:05 CET - What a comeback from Frances Tiafoe! The number 11 seed come from two sets down to get the better of Alex Michelsen 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
A top-level encounter between the two saw a total of 16 breaks - eight for each player - with Tiafoe finding a way to win the match in the deciding tiebreak. He will be watching tonight's match closely, as he takes on the winner of Alcaraz or Shelton.
00:05 CET - To a decider we go! A topsy-turvy fourth set full of breaks of serve has ended 6-3 in favour of Tiafoe, meaning we're going the distance on Arthur Ashe.

23:29 CET - We could be in for a long night in the city that never sleeps, with Tiafoe leading the fourth set 3-0 after fighting back from a break down to win the third 7-5 - we have a real contest on our hands now!
22:06 CET - Michelsen has now taken a two-set lead, winning the second 6-3. He's yet to drop a single set at this tournament, and Tiafoe will now have to take three off him if he wants to survive.
This is some performance from the young American, who has hit 26 winners to his opponent's eight.
21:20 CET - Alex Michelsen is two sets away from the US Open semis! World number 12 Frances Tiafoe headed into the first men's quarter-final, an all-American clash, very much as the favourite, but 22-year-old Michelsen has claimed the first set 7-5 in 50 minutes.
20:10 CET - That was one heck of a fight, with Sabalenka fighting back from a break down in a decider that ultimately went all the way to a tiebreak, which she then edged 10-7 to claim a 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 victory in two hours and 22 minutes.
Both played excellently in the final set, upping their first-serve percentages and hitting far more winners than unforced errors, but despite some serious quality and spirit from Noskova, the world number one just about had enough to progress.
20:05 CET - Aryna Sabalenka battles into the US Open semi-finals!
19:14 CET - One set all! After fending off two break points in the opening game, Noskova kept things on serve before breaking Sabalenka to make it 4-2, and the Wimbledon champion then saw things out to take this match into a decider.
She played some excellent tennis across the set, hitting 14 winners and winning nine points at the net, and this quarter-final now hangs in the balance.
18:30 CET - Sabalenka wins a rollercoaster of a first set!
The world number one raced into a 5-2 lead, but Noskova then bounced back to win three games in a row and ultimately take things to a tiebreak. There though, Sabalenka took back the initiative to win it 7-1 and take a one-set lead after 48 minutes.

14:00 CET - Hello, and welcome to our coverage of the day's play at the 2026 US Open for September 8th. The singles tournaments are really starting to feel pointy now, with the quarter-finals getting underway on both the men's and women's sides. There will be two from each side today, with the stage to conclude on Wednesday.
We'll get going with a bang as women's top seed and title holder Aryna Sabalenka takes on this year's Wimbledon winner Linda Noskova in the early match on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
That is followed by Frances Tiafoe vs Alex Michelsen in the first of the men's quarters, and then a second all-American affair as Jessica Pegula takes on Emma Navarro past midnight.
Closing out the day, we have arguably the best match last, with defending men's champion Carlos Alcaraz meeting the red-hot Ben Shelton in a blockbuster clash.
