We've got a blockbuster women's final at the China Open today, as fourth seed Mirra Andreeva and home favourite Qinwen Zheng battle it out for the prestigious WTA 1000 title. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Masters moves into the third round, with Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton among the headline names in action.

18:00 CET - That's all from our coverage of the day's tennis in China. Qinwen Zheng clinching her maiden crown in Beijing was clearly the headline result, and what a win it was, roaring from a wildcard berth to her first title in two years.

We'll be back tomorrow to cover the rest of the third round at the Shanghai Masters, as well as the start of the WTA Wuhan Open!

17:38 CET - The final match of the day in Shanghai has ended with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina outlasting seventh seed Frances Tiafoe in an epic battle, 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(6) to reach the fourth round of the Masters event.

Next up for the Spaniard will be a clash with big-serving Pole Hubert Hurkacz. Tiafoe is the third seeded American to fall today, with Ben Shelton and Brandon Nakashima also being dumped out earlier.

15:28 CET - Qinwen Zheng is the champion in Beijing! The Chinese superstar has continued her remarkable return to form with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over fourth seed Mirra Andreeva in the China Open final, clinching her maiden WTA 1000 crown in the process.

The Olympic champion, who was ranked outside the top 150 last year, proved too strong for Andreeva in the key moments, saving four set points in the opener, before breaking the Russian twice in the second set to become the first-ever Chinese winner at the prestigious tournament.

What's more, it's the first piece of silverware for Zheng since October 2024, and the biggest tour-level title of her career, as she moves back into the top 30 in the WTA rankings.

As for Andreeva, the French Open champion misses the chance to secure a third title at WTA 1000 level, but her run to the final will see her climb to a career-high world number three in the updated rankings.

12:15 CET - It's time to turn our attention to Beijing, and the final of the women's China Open between local hope Qinwen Zheng and fourth-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva, which is scheduled to begin at 13:35 CET.

Zheng has been in resurgent form this week as she eyes her first title in two years in front of an adoring home crowd, but comes up against a tough opponent in 19-year-old Andreeva, who is looking to win her fourth title just this year.

The girls have met once before on court, with Zheng winning that match two years ago, also in Beijing.

Andreeva will go in as the favourite, but Zheng has been running hot and will have the full stadium behind her. It promises to be a fascinating affair - follow the final with point-by-point updates via the link above!

11:48 CET - 13th seed Jakub Mensik has overcome Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to move into the fourth round at the Shanghai Masters. The Czech will next take on France's Arthur Gea, who stunned Ben Shelton earlier in the day.

We're not done in Shanghai just yet; there are still three matches to come today with Alexander Zverev, Alexander Bublik and Frances Tiafoe all coming up on court.

11:15 CET - Unseeded Pole Hubert Hurkacz, Novak Djokovic's conqueror, has marched on in Shanghai, defeating China's Zhou Yi 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to progress to the fourth round. It is his ninth straight win at the event.

Zhou made a splash in the second round by beating Lorenzo Musetti, but the 21-year-old's journey ends here. One suspects he won't be outside the top 200 for much longer, however.

09:53 CET - Having reached the Beijing final earlier in the week, Alex de Minaur is safely through to the fourth round in Shanghai after a hard-fought 7-6(6), 6-4 victory over Japan's Rei Sakamoto.

The Aussie won a massive 92% of points behind his first serve, while converting his only break-point chance of the contest midway through the second set.

08:28 CET - Third seed Ben Shelton has been sent packing in Shanghai, with the American losing two tie-break sets in a 6-7(5), 6-7(3) third-round defeat to France's Arthur Gea.

It's a fourth loss in five matches for the US Open runner-up, as 56th-ranked Gea progresses to a fourth-round meeting with either Jakub Mensik or Francisco Cerundolo.
