16:25 CET - In the final match of the day, Cameron Norrie has crashed out at the first hurdle after losing a three-set epic against qualifier Dalibor Svrcina.
That is a fourth straight defeat for Norrie, a horrid run that has seen him lose his two first-round matches in China and get dumped out in the opening round of the US Open.
15:06 CET - It's been a tough evening for Mirra Andreeva in Beijing, but she has progressed to the semi-finals via two tie-breaks against Ekaterina Alexandrova, 7-6(4), 7-6(3).
The fourth seed looked to be cruising after a tight first set at 5-2 up in the second, but Alexandrova battled back to make it 6-6, before Andreeva closed it out.
She will now face new Czech star Nikola Bartunkova for a spot in Sunday's final. Andreeva will also reach a career-high ranking of fourth in the world on Monday.

13:19 CET - Botic van de Zandschulp and Jan-Lennard Struff have both advanced to the second round of the Shanghai Masters, defeating Spanish pair Daniel Merida Aguilar and Martin Landaluce, respectively.
12:50 CET - The next quarter-final in Beijing is around 15 minutes away, as Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva takes on fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, with a semi-final clash against Nikola Bartunkova on the line.

11:30 CET - Over in the incredibly humid conditions of Shanghai, Zachary Svajda, Sebastian Baez and Pablo Carreno-Busta have all claimed wins, with the latter outlasting Mariano Navone 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a near three-hour slugfest.
10:18 CET - After beating Aryna Sabalenka in this tournament, Nikola Bartunkova has claimed another stunning upset in Beijing to beat fellow Czech player and seventh seed Karolina Muchova in the quarter-finals, producing a truly scintillating performance. In the biggest win of her career, Bartunkova converted five out of sixteen break points to triumph 6-3, 6-0 in just over an hour.
The Wimbledon finalist wasn't on her game today, but will still have eyes on qualifying for the WTA Finals. For Bartunkova, she is into the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 event for the first time.

09:20 CET - The results are coming in fast on a busy day at the Shanghai Masters. And it has gone to plan this morning for both Hubert Hurkacz and Matteo Arnaldi, who won in straight sets against Australians James Duckworth and Bernard Tomic, respectively, to book their places in the second round.
Hurkacz is now on a seven-match winning streak in Shanghai and will next face Novak Djokovic, who should be highly confident after winning the title in Beijing last week.

07:40 CET - Good morning and welcome back to our live coverage of the Beijing Open and Shanghai Masters!
The WTA 1000 event in Beijing has reached the quarter-final stage, with several of the world's top players looking to reach the last four.
Up first at 09:00 CET is an all-Czech clash, as Wimbledon finalist and world number eight Karolina Muchova takes on Aryna Sabalenka's conqueror, Nikola Bartunkova.

The pair have never played each other before, but Muchova, who won a maiden 1000 title at the start of the year in Doha, will be the favourite to reach the semi-finals. For Bartunkova, it is her first appearance in the quarter-finals of a 1000 event.
That will be followed by another meeting between two players from the same nation - Russia's Mirra Andreeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Interestingly, Alexandrova leads the head-to-head 2-0 over the Roland Garros champion, but they have never played on a hard court before.
Over to the ATP Shanghai Masters and it is another action-packed day of first-round action. The first match of the day has just concluded, as Stefanos Tsitsipas made light work of Kimmer Coppejans, winning in just over an hour and avoiding any embarrassment.
It is another good opportunity in Shanghai for the Greek to get his career back on track after an encouraging run to the fourth round at the US Open.
Still to come this morning in Shanghai, big-name players such as Hubert Hurkacz, Matteo Arnaldi and later on Cameron Norrie are all in first-round action.
