23:52 CET - Top seed Alexander Zverev has outlasted Ben Shelton to win the US Open men’s final 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 after an epic tussle that lasted over three-and-a-half hours on Arthur Ashe Stadium!
It was a match of fine margins, with the second and third sets largely played on serve. But Zverev broke early in the first and fourth sets, and ultimately, that was the difference as the German won his second Grand Slam title this year, and of his career.
For Shelton, a loss in his first Grand Slam final will sting, but there are plenty of positives to take from his run to the decider in New York. He'll be hungry for more now, and he showed great spirit not to surrender after going 2-0 down.

23:08 CET - This is not over just yet! Ben Shelton has battled back to win the third set against Alexander Zverev and push this men's final into a fourth.
Finally, deep into the third, the American converted his first break point of the match on his way to winning another hour-long set 7-5. That's going to be a real boost for Shelton and his hyped home support. The equation is simple now: he has to win the next set too!
22:10 CET - Alexander Zverev has clinched an epic second set against Ben Shelton to lead the men’s final 6-3, 7-6(2) at the US Open. The German showed incredible mental fortitude to outlast the American in that mammoth set, which lasted well over an hour.
That one really went the distance, with neither player breaking serve until the tie-break, when Zverev stepped up to roar ahead with five unanswered points before wrapping it up. The match is his to lose now; he has one hand on his second Grand Slam title...
20:59 CET - Alexander Zverev has won the first set against Ben Shelton to lead the men's final 6-3 after 41 minutes of play in Flushing Meadows.
The German top seed broke in the first game and didn't look back, despite the American firing down four aces. Shelton has plenty to do now, and in case you didn't know, he has never beaten Zverev in five previous meetings.
20:30 CET - We are three games in on Arthur Ashe, and Alexander Zverev leads Ben Shelton 2-1 after breaking at the very first opportunity. There's a long way to go yet, but the home hope will need to tighten up if he is to become the first American US Open men's champion since Andy Roddick in 2003. 19:29 CET - Home favourite and eighth seed Ben Shelton has faced a considerably more difficult path to the final, seeing off seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set epic, as well as compatriot Frances Tiafoe, former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Poland's Hubert Hurkacz.
The 23-year-old is aiming to become the first American man to win the US Open since 2003, and heads into the Flushing Meadows showpiece with a perfect 4-0 record in title matches this season.
18:50 CET - German top seed Alexander Zverev has produced a topsy-turvy tournament en route to the final, battling through back-to-back five-set matches against Lorenzo Sonego and Quentin Halys in the opening two rounds, before cruising through a favourable draw with four consecutive straight-set victories.
Playing with greater freedom since breaking his Grand Slam duck at Roland Garros in June, Zverev will certainly fancy his chances against Shelton, having won each of his last 16 matches against left-handed opponents.

Top-seeded Zverev is contesting a third successive Grand Slam final, having finally claimed his maiden major at Roland Garros in June, while Shelton is looking to end an agonising 23-year wait for a men's champion at Flushing Meadows.
The final, which is due to get underway at 20:00 CET, is a sixth career meeting between the two players, with Zverev having won all five previous encounters, including twice on American hard courts.
